VidiView supports various clinical operations, and we regularly meet medical staff who use VidiView in their daily work. Their experiences and descriptions of their procedures are very interesting, and through these user stories, we want to showcase their work and methods. The material is mainly from Scandinavia, so it’s in Nordic languages, but all videos have English subtitles.

Innovating surgery through video and insight

In this film, we visit Mora Hospital, where the surgical department has made VidiView a central part of both training and quality assurance. Through the Black Box project, operations, mainly laparoscopic procedures, are recorded with both video and audio. The goal is to provide a powerful tool for learning, reflection, and continuous improvement in surgery.

As surgical volumes for residents decrease, the demand for alternative training methods continues to grow. Here, VidiView plays a vital role, making it possible to view, analyse, and discuss procedures. Not only in real time, but afterwards as well. It strengthens collaboration between junior and senior doctors, enhances patient safety, and fosters a culture where transparency and learning are at the centre.

Patient safety increases when surgery is video recorded

Documenting operations with VidiView plays a central role in e-learning at Region Dalarna, particularly in technically demanding procedures such as bariatric surgery.

“With VidiView, we can record our own surgeries and compare them with footage from high-volume centres, where the same procedures are often carried out both faster and more safely.

The benefits of video recording laparoscopic surgery

In this feature, Lars-Göran Larsson explains the background to video recording operations. During the 1990s, laparoscopic surgery was introduced without sufficient training, which resulted in an increased risk of complications. To improve training, surgeons therefore began to be systematically filmed and a digital video archive – the Black Box – was developed.

Today, the archive is used by both medical students and experienced specialists throughout Sweden as a valuable tool for learning and improved patient safety. At Mora Lasarett, active work continues to further develop the archive, and video technology is seen as a key component in promoting safe surgery.
